Off the Public Gardens, this small isolated island has housed since the beginning of the 18th century a community of Mekhitarist monks, an Armenian Catholic congregation whose intellectual influence has far exceeded the size of the island itself.
Still inhabited today by a small community of religious, the island is generally visited in the afternoon, as part of a guided tour that provides access to areas otherwise closed to the public.
