Torre Massimiliana and Bacàn Beach Monument
19th-century Austro-Hungarian fort, now converted into a cultural venue at the tip of Sant'Erasmo.
Torre Massimiliana, sentinel of the lagoon
At the northeastern tip of Sant'Erasmo, the Torre Massimiliana was built in the mid-19th century by the Austro-Hungarian administration to monitor the northern access to the lagoon, as an extension of the coastal defense system established after the fall of the Republic of Venice.
Restored and converted into a cultural space, the tower now hosts exhibitions and one-off events, offering along the way an unobstructed view over the northern lagoon, towards Burano and Punta Sabbioni.
