Marco Polo Airport to Venice Article
Getting to Venice from Marco Polo Airport: Alilaguna boat, ATVO/ACTV bus to Piazzale Roma, land taxi or water taxi, with official fares and practical advice.
Journey from Marco Polo Airport to Venice
Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is located in Tessera, on the mainland, about ten kilometres from the historic centre. Since no road enters Venice, all journeys to the city are by bus to Piazzale Roma (the city's road gateway, from where you can reach your district on foot or by vaporetto), or directly by boat.
By boat (Alilaguna)
Alilaguna connects the airport directly to the main stops in Venice (train station, San Marco, Rialto depending on the line), via three lines: the blue line (airport – Murano – Lido – San Marco – train station), the orange line (airport – Rialto – Santa Maria del Giglio) and the red line (seasonal, April-November, via Murano and the Lido). Allow about 1h to 1h15 travel time depending on the stop.
Official fare: €18 one way, €32 return, checked baggage and cabin baggage included (€3-4 per additional bag).
By bus (ATVO or ACTV) to Piazzale Roma
Two companies serve the direct route to Piazzale Roma, in 20 to 30 minutes:
- ATVO “Fly Bus” - direct route with no stops, luggage hold, Wi-Fi. €10 one way, €18 return.
- ACTV line 5 “Aerobus” - more frequent urban bus (departures every 15 to 30 minutes), without a real luggage hold. Also €10 one way.
Tip: from Piazzale Roma, you then need to walk or take a vaporetto to reach your accommodation if it is not immediately nearby.
By taxi
The land taxi reaches Piazzale Roma in about fifteen minutes (fare not fixed, to be negotiated or metered depending on the trip). The water taxi (private boat taxi) drops you off directly at the pier nearest to your accommodation: official fare of about €110 for the historic centre during the day (up to 4 people, 20 to 30 minutes), with a surcharge at night or on public holidays.
From Venice to the airport
The same options work in the opposite direction: ATVO bus or ACTV line 5 from Piazzale Roma, or Alilaguna from the main stops in the city. Allow enough time before boarding, especially if you have a boat connection from an address far from Piazzale Roma.
Good to know
The fares shown are those displayed on the official websites at the time of writing and may change: check current prices before you leave, especially if you book through a third-party site.
