Climate in Venice Article

Venice climate month by month: temperatures, rainfall, sunshine, and the best times to visit by season.

Climate in Venice

Venice has a humid subtropical climate tempered by the Adriatic Sea, with hot, often muggy summers and cool, damp winters. The humidity, due to the city's position in its lagoon, can be felt all year round: frequent fog in winter, sticky heat in summer.

The most pleasant times to visit are generally spring (April to June) and late summer through mid-October. Winter can bring occasional frost and, above all, episodes of acqua alta (high water), which are most frequent between November and January.

Season by season

Spring (March to May) - mild temperatures and longer days make it one of the best times to explore the city on foot, but also one of the busiest (Carnival at the end of winter, then the tourist influx from Easter onwards).

Summer (June to August) - heat that can exceed 30 °C, high humidity and sometimes violent thunderstorms in the late afternoon. The narrow alleys and the lack of greenery make the heat feel even stronger.

Autumn (September to November) - September and the first half of October remain very pleasant; from November, rain and the first acqua alta episodes become more frequent.

Winter (December to February) - damp cold, possible fog over the lagoon, and a noticeably quieter city outside Carnival and the end-of-year holidays.
